It's Time To Visit Lake George by Mary Giella

January 2012 Archives

I just read an article written by David Taube at the Post Star.  We average about 65 inches of snow each winter.  Last winter we saw 89.2 inches of snow.  So far, we've had 15.5 inches of snow this season including our pre Halloween snow!  According to Brian Whitley, the senior meteorologist at North Country Weather, at this point last year, only 37.5 inches of snow fell.  That means that 51.7 inches fell after January 27th!  I feel another Valentine's Day blizzard in the air - that one was powerful and ruined alot of romantic dinner plans.  Let's hope it arrives before Valentine's Day.  It's Time to Visit Lake George - please bring some snow with you too!

Well, this has not been the winter, so far, for winter sports enthusiasts.  We've had way below average snowfall and way above average temperatures.  The long range forecast indicates below freezing temps next week which should help the Winter Carnival festivities.  For up to date scheduling and venue changes, please visit http://lakegeorgewintercarnival.com or http://www.lakegeorge.com/winter/carnival.cfm.  For those of you attending the Gala at Dunham's Bay tonight - have a rockin good time!

Next weekend is Winter Women's Weekend at Camp Chingachgook.  Play inside or out - winter hiking, tubing, snowshoeing, fitness classes, manis, pedis and more!  Have fun ladies.  http://www.lakegeorge.com/business/camp-chingachgook-3487/  for more info.

Snow or no snow, It's Always Time to Visit Lake George!

Dunham's Bay will be hosting the Kick Off Gala beginning with cocktails at 6pm with dinner to follow on January 28th. Enjoy good food and drink with friends and family.

The weather is cooperating at last - not much snow here, but, the temps have dipped in anticipation - YAY!

Opening ceremonies for the Carnival will take place at noon on February 4th at Shepards Park Beach.  Every Saturday during the Carnival, be sure to enjoy the Bon Fire on the Beach and the Fireworks display over the Lake.  A fun time for all!  Don't forget to have your camera ready - there's a photo contest - a good way to have your great shots seen!  For more information and the schedule of events, visit lakegeorgewintercarnival.com.  It's Time to Visit Lake George!

LG 011012.jpgBring your mittens, boots, snowmobiles, skis, and sleds!  Lake George is expecting 3-5 inches of snow for tonight and tomorrow morning with more to follow on Friday!  Higher amounts of snow will fall north of Lake George - Gore Mountain will probably see 8 or more inches.  It's going to be a great winter wonderland holiday weekend.  Hop on the snow train in Saratoga - train leaves Saratoga at 7am and arrives in North Creek at 9:20am - have a fun filled day before boarding the train back to Saratoga.  For more info and fares, visit http://www.lakegeorge.com/business/saratoga-and-north-creek-railway-10256/

This is a picture of Lake George taken yesterday from Beach Road - it won't look like this for long.  The temperatures are dropping just in time for the Lake George Winter Carnival held weekends in February.   It's Time to Visit Lake George - see you soon ON the Lake!
