Are any of these attractions designed for toddlers and preschoolers, not just older kids?
Yes. While many attractions on this list work best for school-age kids and teens, at least one theme park in the area is built specifically for ages 2 to 8, with rides, exhibits, and pacing designed around younger children.
Do whitewater rafting and tubing trips have age or weight requirements?
Minimum ages vary by operator. Most family-friendly rafting trips set the minimum age at 5, though Hudson River rafting trips through some outfitters raise that to 8. Treetop adventure courses vary widely, with minimum ages anywhere from 5 to 9 depending on the operator.
What happens to our plans if it rains?
The area has enough indoor options to fill a rainy day without cutting the trip short. Indoor go-kart tracks, glow-in-the-dark mini golf, bowling, arcades, an indoor playground, and an indoor waterpark all operate regardless of weather. Plus, whitewater rafting and treetop adventures can operate in the rain as well, which can be just as fun.
Is horseback riding available or just rodeo shows?
Both are available, but not at the same place. A couple of ranches in the area offer guided horseback riding, and one of those also runs sleigh rides in the winter. A separate attraction hosts rodeo shows for spectators rather than horseback riding.
Is it better to book kids attractions in advance during peak season?
Popular options like rafting trips, indoor go-kart tracks, and the amusement park can fill up or required timed entry during peak summer weekends, so booking ahead is worth doing. Smaller stops like a candy shop or mini golf courses tend to be more flexible for walk-ins.
