The days will be getting longer starting on December 22nd but the temperatures will continue to drop for a while. We’ve enjoyed some pleasant weather for December and it doesn’t look like we’ll have a white Christmas this year.
For those of you that haven’t seen Lake George freeze over, it’s an amazing sight! Once the ice is thick enough, fun on top of the lake begins! Ice fishing shanties appear by the dozens. We don’t only ice skate on the lake, we drive on it and celebrate on it with the Winter Carnival held weekends during the month of February.
Here is a safety guide tip regarding ice safety from the NYS DEC –
Ice Thickness Permissible Load
2 inches One person on foot
3 inches Group in single file
7.5 inches One car (2 tons)
8 inches Light truck (2.5 tons)
10 inches Truck (3.5 tons)
12 inches Heavy truck (7-8 tons)
15 inches 10 tons
