Lake George Named One of the Most Charming Town Squares in the Adirondacks
We’ve always known Lake George’s Village waterfront is something special, and now it’s getting national recognition. WorldAtlas has named Lake George as home to one of the 13 Most Charming Town Squares in the Adirondack Mountains.
What Makes Lake George’s “Town Square” So Charming?
Lake George’s town square is anchored by its waterfront, with Shepard Park at the heart of it all. According to WorldAtlas, the Village works so well because so many of its defining experiences are concentrated into one walkable, lakeside hub along Canada Street.
Shepard Park offers:
- A scenic lakefront promenade
- An amphitheater overlooking Lake George
- Beach access just steps from the Village
This layout keeps the “town square” feeling alive from morning through evening, with the shoreline always part of the experience.
A Hub for Events, History & Waterfront Fun
WorldAtlas also pointed out how weekly events and nearby landmarks reinforce Lake George’s Village core, including live music nearly every day of the week in the summer.
Just beyond the park, major attractions are close enough to enjoy without ever getting in the car:
- Fort William Henry Museum, a short walk away
- Lake George Steamboat Company docks, keeping narrated cruises connected directly to the village
- Summer fireworks, which draw crowds back to the waterfront night after night
All of these experiences naturally loop visitors back to Shepard Park and Canada Street, strengthening that central “town square” feel.
Charming in Every Season
The charm doesn’t fade when winter arrives. WorldAtlas noted that the Lake George Winter Carnival returns activity to the same waterfront core, with Shepard Park at the heart of the festivities.
