Floating Bigfoot Island & Resort Approved for Lake George

Attention Bigfoot fans: An anonymous private developer has announced plans to construct the world’s first man-made “floating forest island” in the heart of Lake George!

The project, collectively known as Sasquatch Station, will comprise a 16-acre artificial island located approximately 500 yards east of Dome Island. Modeled after the natural silhouettes of the lake’s existing islands, this bio-engineered landmass will house the high-tech Bigfoot Discovery Park and the treehouse-themed Apex Lodge.

From Legend to Landmass

According to a spokesperson for the developer who gave us an inside peek into what to expect for this new attraction and hotel, the vision for Sasquatch Station was born from the skyrocketing popularity of local Bigfoot events.

"We’ve watched the Whitehall Sasquatch Calling Festival grow from about half a dozen vendors in 2016 to over 125 expected for 2026," the developer said. "Between the Lake George Steamboat Company’s Bigfoot Cruises and the Sasquatch Express on the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railway, it’s clear that the public wants more in this area. Plus, Bigfoot needs a place to vacation, too.”

While the developer originally scouted existing locations like Long Island and Dome Island, the environmental protections and existing DEC management made a build-your-own approach the only viable path to bringing this sasquatch lover's paradise to fruition.

The Bigfoot Discovery Park & Apex Lodge

Construction is slated to begin in the summer of 2026, with a grand opening tentatively scheduled for 2027. The project is divided into three distinct experiences:

• The Bigfoot Discovery Park: A theme park that balances adrenaline with education. Beyond the rides, guests can visit a "Cryptid Planetarium," where 360-degree visual effects simulate the elusive creature's habitat and nesting habits. The park plans to host guest lectures from world-renowned Sasquatch researchers and authors.
• The Apex Lodge: A 50-room "treehouse" resort where every private balcony comes equipped with military-grade night vision binoculars for 24/7 Sasquatch spotting.
• The Dining: A small, themed café is currently in the works, with plans for a larger full-service restaurant overlooking the North Basin at a later time.

Rides & Attractions

For thrill-seekers and those who love amusement parks:

• The Squatch-Drop Coaster: A vertical wooden coaster that plunges riders into a pitch-black "forest tunnel."
• Puttering Primate Mini Golf: An 18-hole course where motion-activated animatronics howl if you miss a putt.
• Hide and Seek Zipline: A high-speed line from the island's summit to a floating barge, passing through simulated "Bigfoot Nests."
• The Great Footprint Splash: A massive wave pool shaped like a giant hominid footprint.

For the Little Bigfoot Enthusiasts

Younger explorers who aren't quite ready for a 150-foot coaster drop can head with their parents to Sasquatch Sprout Sanctuary, a dedicated woodland play-zone designed specifically for the little foot crowd. 

Much like how Great Escape has Timbertown, with rides ideal for younger children, Sasquatch Sprout Sanctuary will feature rides like a Bigfoot-themed carousel with Sasquatches and other Adirondack animals, and a Search & Rescue Shuttle similar to the Wilderness Bus Tours ride at Timbertown. 

Interactive adventures and educational elements like a scavenger hunt are also in the works, plus storytime with books like The Boy Who Cried Bigfoot by Scott Magoon, How to Catch a Bigfoot by Alice Walstead, and Bigfoot Makes a Movie by Joan Lowery Nixon.

Logistics & Professional Positions

Access to Sasquatch Station is exclusively via a 50-person “shuttle boat” departing from Lake George Village multiple times a day. A small transportation fee will apply. Personal boat docking at Sasquatch Station is strictly prohibited. 

While guests can stay at the hotel without visiting the park and vice versa, those who opt for both will get a package discount. Exact prices have yet to be determined.

The project is also currently seeking Professional Bigfoot Impersonators to inhabit the island’s wooded interior - how to apply is expected to be announced soon.

An Environmentally Friendly Addition to the Lake

Many may be wondering: how does this man-made island affect the lake? Lake George is known for its conservation efforts to keep the lake clean, pristine, and free of invasive species.

Lake George fans will be thrilled to hear that Sasquatch Station features over 10,000 native Adirondack plants whose root systems extend deep into the water to naturally absorb excess nitrogen and phosphorus - the main culprits behind harmful algae blooms - by effectively “scrubbing” the lake water as it drifts through and around the island.

Boat Traffic & Safety

Going along with environmental concerns, is boat traffic. To ensure the safety of boaters and those on the island, a new, strictly enforced 5-MPH No Wake Zone will be established in the channel between Sasquatch Station and Dome Island. 

This protected lane ensures that the floating forest roots remain undisturbed by heavy chop, while protecting the shoreline of the uninhabited Dome Island, and ensuring those in the vicinity are forced to slow down when boating by.

A Complement to the Region

Project leaders emphasize that Sasquatch Station isn’t meant to compete with existing events like the Whitehall festival or the Steamboat cruises, but to complement them.

This entertainment and educational hub for Bigfoot enthusiasts of all ages is expected to run from May through October. The majority of Bigfoot sightings occur in August, September, and October.
