Chapter 1: Starlight
Saturday, 7:15 - 10:30 pm
Every once in a while, an evening comes along that feels like it belongs a little outside of ordinary time.
As dusk settles over the mountain ridge around the Adirondack Labyrinth, founder Christine Powers will guide an ethereal candlelit labyrinth walk with crystal bowls and voice. The sound moves through stone, earth, body, and evening air as the path slowly shifts from twilight into night.
After the walk, we’ll gather around the campfire. When the sky falls darker, astronomer Ed Guenther will guide us into the stars with high-powered telescopes and decades of knowledge. On an August night, the canopy of constellations over the Adirondacks is no small thing.
This first chapter is an evening of music, candlelight labyrinth walk, fire, and conscious observation of the uncountable stars above.
Chapter 2: Sunrise
Sunday, 7:30 - 10:00 am
Early mornings in the Adirondacks often arrive wrapped in mist.
At the labyrinth, the morning fog rises from the ponds and Kibby Creek, the forest wall catches the first gold of the day, and the whole valley bowl seems to exhale. Before the day fully begins, Christine will lead a guided morning meditation and contemplative labyrinth walk.
After your walk, wander where you feel called: to the pond edges, a bench beneath the trees, or a quiet place to simply sit and listen.
When everyone is complete with the walk, we’ll then gather on the patio of Stillman House for a light breakfast of coffee, tea, pastries, and other delectables — with time to linger, talk, laugh, and let the morning do what Adirondack mornings do best.
Resident wildlife may also make an appearance. Beaver, heron, hawks, turtles, geese, foxes, and deer are all noticeably sharing the land with us at Asa this summer.
This second chapter is a gentle morning of reflection, beauty, breakfast, and connection.
Chapter 3: Celebration
Sunday, 12:00 - 5:00 pm
The third chapter is proper picnic merriment.
Beginning at noon, we will open the gates for an afternoon of community, music, movement, sunlight, and summer joy.
- All afternoon: Open labyrinth walking, lawn games, campfire, picnic time, and astronomer Ed Gunther returns so we can do exactly what our mothers always told us not to do, and look directly at the sun! Totally safe and absolutely spectacular.
- 1:00 pm Gentle Tai Chi style “Meditation in Motion” with Jerry Petell
- 2:00 - 4:00 Bone Bayse and Pete Burns from the popular band BONE DOCTOR, will set a live music background for all to enjoy, playing classic country covers mixed with their sharp wit and humorous banter while folks try and find their way out of the labyrinth
- 4:00 Cake time! Celebrate the labyrinth's third birthday with us with yummy cake for all.
Thanks to generous support from the Town of Johnsburg, Sunday’s Celebration chapter is offered at a reduced community rate of $15 per person.
Bring your family. Bring your friends. Bring chairs and blankets. Bring a picnic lunch, but save room for birthday cake! We'll have beverages and snacks for sale.
This third chapter is a sunlit afternoon of open labyrinth walking, music, movement, community, and proper birthday merriment.
