About this event
Step into a 1914 salon celebrating the legendary partnership of soprano Alma Gluck—the first female classical artist to sell 1 million records—and violinist Efrem Zimbalist. This evocative program begins with a rare playback of one of Gluck’s records on The Sembrich’s beautiful 1908 Victrola, vividly bringing history to life.
In June 1914, the musical world buzzed with excitement over the marriage of Alma Gluck—beloved student of Marcella Sembrich—and the celebrated Efrem Zimbalist. This salon concert pays homage to their remarkable artistic partnership and recording legacy, with soprano Lily Arbisser joined by violinist Rubén Rengel and pianist Renate Rohlfing in an afternoon of music by Massenet, Kreisler, Puccini, Hahn, and others, evoking the intimacy and glamour of the early recording era.
