Tucked in a quiet Cleverdale neighborhood on Ripley Point, within a stone’s throw of Lake George’s Kattskill Bay, the doors of the Sans Souci (meaning “without worry” in French) have remained shut since the restaurant closed in July 2017.
Soon, the lights will turn on and the doors will open, welcoming residents and visitors back to this popular bar and grill, a favorite among locals for over a century. Later this month, the Sans Souci will reopen its doors and kick off the summer season with a new menu from local chef Mike Cirelli.
Neighbors Join Together To Save Restaurant
The reopening of The Sans, as it is known to residents of Cleverdale, Pilot Knob, and Assembly Point, was made possible by the joint action of a network of concerned neighbors. Led by Charlie Crew, retired chief executive of Sabic Innovative Plastics, nine area residents banded together and purchased the property for $625,000 in April of 2018.
The new owners purchased the restaurant itself and the cottage next door. These nine neighbors are leasing the restaurant to chef Mike Cirelli. Kitchen renovations and exterior upgrades will spruce up the building and expand options on the new menu before the grand opening, which is expected to be near Memorial Day.
Experience The Tastes Of Lake George Like The Locals Do
The new Sans Souci will offer traditional pub fare and healthy options. The opening date will be announced by the restaurant’s owners on Facebook and Instagram, so keep an eye out and be sure to visit this local gem, saved and improved by the neighbors who love it.
Are you planning a party this summer? The Sans will also be offering catering for parties and community events!
