wakonda-lodge.jpgBefore founding Yaddo in 1900, Katrina and Spencer Trask would invite young artists to their magnificent waterfront property on Lake George for an artist retreat.

It was there that the New York Arts Club held their first retreat, featuring Georgia O'Keeffe as a registered guest-artist. The property featured the then-new Wakonda, a 12 room Adirondack lodge that the artists referred to as the "artists' roost."

In 1903 the Trasks deeded the land to Marry Fuller for one dollar and a bouquet of wild flowers.

It was that generosity that allowed Mary to begin realizing her dream of opening Wiawaka Holiday House and bringing "factory girls" from the local textile mills to Lake George for a much needed rest.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday an agreement between New York State and the St. Regis Mohawk tribe that would honor the tribe's casino exclusivity, and exclude eight northern New York counties, including Warren and Essex, from casino gaming site legislation.

The Sagamore Resort on beautiful Lake George NY re-opened on May 3rd with renovations and improvements, but also with its previous limited year-round status!

Adirondack Winery is an artisanal local winery offering a wide range of wines to suit every palate and it has fast became a destination in the village of Lake George!

The winery offers an impressive selection of award winning wines, boasts a gorgeous tasting room, and an ever-expanding selection handpicked by their own wine-maker.

The Pardy's have been passionate winemakers for many years; opening up their own winery was the logical next step. They moved from Florida to Lake George, New York to open a micro-winery, and the rest is history!
