Lake George Fishing Guide by Justin Mahoney

The mild winter on Lake George got us ready for what promises to be a spectacular season of fishing on Lake George. The smelt run is underway and it offers a prime opportunity to catch some great salmon and lakers - you don't want to miss it. And, yes, some parts of the lake are better than others this time of year. That's one reason you'll want to be sure you've got an experienced guide who knows where to go and how to catch the fish. Throughout the season, I'll be sharing at least a few secrets I've learned fishing these waters for more than 20 years on the Highliner. Stay tuned.

Well it's that time of year again, fishin' time ! Sorry I didn't blog over the winter but I just didn't feel safe encouraging folks to head out on the ice . With no real ice on Lake George this year we can expect some great trout and salmon fishing this season. We will be starting charters on 4/1 and we can't wait!

With warmer waters, the smelt may move into the shallows a little early this year before making their spawning run. This could be a season with some great early trout and salmon fishing outside the spawning brooks. If you've never fished a smelt run, this is the year to do it! We will be running coupons and specials here at Lake Goerge.com as well as on our Facebook page, so check in regularly and see what we're catching. Today I'm posting a great catch from last season..a little inspiration to get going for 2012.

Tight lines,

While many of us are hanging up our fishing equipment and heading into the woods in pursuit of game, some will be taking advantage of the great fishing that occurs before the lakes and ponds freeze up. Salmon and lakers will be moving inshore and up close to the surface ast he waters cool. Use the same tactics I told you about in the spring, and you'll be rewarded with some nice fish. If you'd like to try for something different head down to Saratoga Lake and you can cash in on some good fall walleye fishing. Try using crank baits and large stick baits around the deep water edges of the dying weed beds.
Shad wraps , bombers and jigs will all produce. You can troll or cast to these tasty fish. Try the areas around Chinatown , Snake Hill, and up inside Fish Creek. Put your time in and you'll be enjoying these tasty filets all winter long. Good luck and tight lines.

Highliner Charter Fishing extends our thoughts to all those who suffered damage or losses in Hurricane Irene. Lake George took quite a lashing, but the good news is the weather has cleared and there is GREAT FISHING AHEAD ON LAKE GEORGE. Highliner Charter Fishing is booking trips for September and October, and we've got some great spots open in coming weeks. The waters are uncrowded and the fish are plentiful - especially lake trout and bass.

We are in the height of the fishing season on Lake George and are bringing in beautiful lake trout every day. In the evenings, the bass fishing is better than ever( catch and release) . Back to the lake trout: check out this beauty from just this morning:

Been off the blog for a while, but fishing has been good so has the weather. That means long days on the water. That's a good thing. July and Aug have been very hot here in the Adirondacks. Great for vacationers. Fishing has also been hot for most of the summer. Of course not every day is a banner day, but we have consistently boated fish every trip. Mainly lake trout and bass. Salmon have been few but the ones we've had have been good ones. Right now you should be looking for trout in the 100 to 150 foot depths. Try the waters around Dome Island. Troll Christmas tree rigs on the bottom with a flat fish or work spoons and needle fish on the suspended fish. This should help you put some fish in the box... Things will really heat up as we head into September. I'll keep you posted. Enjoy some photos from recent trips.

Incredible fishing out on Lake George in recent weeks. Reeling in the lake trout by day and bass in the evenings. First timers and old timers are pulling them in, and whether you're a novice or a seasoned fisherman, I can promise you a great fishing charter on Lake George. It's true, not all parts of the lake "fish the same". Here are some photos of Highliner guests who landed in the right place at the right time..the right bait and gear helps too!

Come on out Saturday and Sunday June 25 and 26 and enjoy NY State's Free Fishing Days. No fishing license required. Book a charter Highliner Charter Fishing and head out for prime fishing for lake trout or bass. Just this morning we snagged 13 lakers and will be out looking for bass in the evening. Don't miss these great days to fish!
