A Storied Past on the Shores of Lake George
Bolton Landing was founded in the early 1800s as a farming and logging town, after it separated from the town of Thurman. The shift to tourism happened after the Civil War, as increased rail access to the Lake George region yielded a growing interest in the Adirondacks.
Grand hotels started popping up along the Lake George shoreline around the late 1800s and early 1900s, welcoming city dwellers and artists seeking inspiration and relaxation by the lake.
