A Note On Safety for Lake or Pond Skating

While ice skating outdoors on a lake or pond can be a magical experience, especially on Lake George with the mountains surrounding you, safety needs to come first.

Natural ice is unpredictable and can vary in thickness, even in the same area. It is absolutely crucial to check conditions before heading out.

The ice should be at least 4 inches thick for skating. Avoid areas with flowing water, including near bubblers that you can see by docks on Lake George.

Pay attention to local advisories and the weather, as warming temperatures or snow cover can weaken ice, and always skate with others.
