Gourd Design: Bird Feeders with Tim Sauter
This course teaches participants how to make a natural Gourd Bird Feeder. During the introduction, numerous examples of raw and finished gourds will be shown. The first part of the class will be devoted to preparation and planning, and the cleaning and preparation of both interior and exterior surface of the gourd will be covered in detail. Various tools and materials will be used, including scouring pads, steel wool, power drills and saws, Dremel tools, scrapers, sanding materials and more. Students will cut out and sand down one to four large openings in the upper half of their gourd. After a rigorous interior scraping preparation of the gourd, numerous painting and drawing techniques will be discussed and demonstrated, including wet and dry brush, sponge, stencil and others. After the base is dry, students will decorate their own gourds. Once complete, the gourds will be coated with polyurethane and made ready to hang.
#1457-0127. 1 day.
NOTE: Students should bring with them a pail or basin to clean their gourd, and smock or old clothes.
