Winter Carnival Fun, Warren County Communities Highlighted & Loons Rescued
The Winter Carnival Continues This Weekend in Lake George
The second weekend of the Lake George Winter Carnival is slated for this Saturday and Sunday, with a BBQ Cook Off (more on food competitions at the Carnival below), fireworks, sanctioned car races on the ice, a keg toss, and more.
Please note: Winter Carnival organizers recently posted that dog sled rides have been cancelled by the vendor. At this point they are expecting dog sled rides for the last weekend only, February 26 and 27.
The View Restaurant at Dunham’s Bay Resort Wins Chili Competition
The View Restaurant won the Chili Cook Off at the Carnival last Saturday. Blue 32 took home second place, and Charlie’s Bar & Kitchen third.
The remaining food competitions for the carnival include the BBQ Cook Off this Saturday, a Soup & Chowder Cook Off on February 19, and a Mac & Cheese Cook Off on February 26. For the first time, tickets for the cook offs are being sold online ahead of time, as well as the hot chocolate bar.

Warren County’s “First Wilderness” Communities to Be Highlighted
The Warren County Department of Planning and Community Development is working with the Saratoga Springs-based Cliff & Redfield Interactive, a media communications organization, to promote the First Wilderness Heritage Corridor. The corridor runs from Stony Creek to North Creek, and the year-long project will help to promote recreational activities in the towns that run along the corridor: Stony Creek, Thurman, Warrensburg, Chester, Johnsburg, Lake Luzerne, Hadley, and Horicon.
Project plans include networking opportunities for area college and high school students with potential career interest (or volunteers), enlisting the help of experts and storytellers to help draw out what’s unique about this chunk of western Warren County, and more.
You can find First Wilderness on Facebook to keep up with developments, and find out about live streamed conversations on the project.
Lake George Loons Recently Rescued
We all love a good loon story – ice fishermen and biologists have rescued three iced-in loons on Lake George so far this month, according to North Country Public Radio. The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation told the network that the birds were all lacking “flight feathers” and had been unable to migrate before the ice came in. They’ve been released to Lake Champlain.
