Just one day after the Lake George Land Conservancy announced the closure of Pinnacle Trail they followed up with the Schumann Preserve at Pilot Knob. Read below for their statement issued on Facebook.

The LGLC posted a statement on Facebook on Wednesday, April 8th, announcing the closure of the preserve starting today, Thursday the 9th. They said:
“Recently the parking lot and street have been overwhelmed by vehicles, and the trails have been packed with hikers. These conditions make compliance with social distancing rules and other regulations enacted by the State impossible. The continuous overuse is also placing a strain on the natural resources of the preserve.”
The nonprofit group acknowledged the difficulty of this decision because it’s such a special place to so many people. They also pointed out that large groups of unrelated hikers may be subject to fines of $1,000, in accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order related to social distancing.
The LGLC made a second statement on recreating outdoors in general during the pandemic and the importance of recreating locally. You can read the full posts on their Facebook page.
