A brand new exhibit will be opening in Lake George’s Courthouse Gallery this weekend, and the artist has made a very clever use of items you’re probably familiar with.
The installation is called “Which Way“, and it is a series of works by Abraham Ferraro. Since Ferraro initially began creating it in 2011, the collection of sculptures made from packing materials and shipping labels – titled “Directions” – has grown to include more than 100 pieces.
Because the installation is site-specific, Ferraro can adjust the pieces to directly relate to the space they occupy.
“Directions is more than how art physically gets from A to B, but specifically about the evolution of an idea or process that all artists experience as their work morphs and changes over time,” Ferraro said in a statement. “In this case the dates and addresses lead the viewer through my evolution of form, color, and conceptualization of Mail Art…though I feel more like a Pop Artist appropriating packing stickers in my most recent work.”
Ferraro is currently teaching Sculpture and acting as the Sculpture Technician at The College of Saint Rose in Albany.
The opening reception for “Which Way” will be held this Saturday, September 26 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm, and is free and open to the public. After the opening reception, “Which Way” can be seen in the Courthouse Gallery through October 30 during the following hours: Tuesday – Friday 12:00pm – 5:00pm; Saturday 12:00pm – 4:00pm.
