Anyone who has ever visited Lake George knows how its crystal clear water and mountain scenery combine to create unparalleled beauty. That’s why it came as no surprise that the search engine Bing named Lake George one of the World’s Most Beautiful Lakes.
Bing compiled a list of 16 beautiful lakes around the world celebrating “the marvels the world’s lakes offer us.” Five american lakes made the cut, and Lake George was one of them.
The feature noted that among the many lakes gracing the Adirondack region, none are quite so picturesque as Lake George. Bing mentioned that Lake George was especially “noted geographically and scenically for a five mile stretch called the Narrows.”
The Sagamore also got a nod from Bing for being reminiscent of the lake’s glamorous days in the Gilded Age. As a tourist attraction both then and now, the resort continues to grace the pristine waters of Lake George.
Other lakes recognized for their beauty were Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, the second largest mountain lake in the world; Coniston Water in England, where William Wordsworth wrote many of his famous poems; and Lake Bled in Slovenia, “one of Europe’s most photographed bodies of water.” For Lake George to be named among these gorgeous natural wonders is quite the honor.
Are you pleased to see Lake George on this list? What other area lakes do you think are among the most beautiful?
Lake George is without question the most beautiful lake in the world. It is compared to Lake Louise in Switzerland. Beautiful, cold and surrounded by the Adirondacks.
Grew up in that area and spent most summers as a teen going to Lake George. We had the time of our lives and carry the memories with me with pride. If you have not visited Lake George you owe it to yourself to take a vacation there, preferably during thorobred racing season at Saratoga. It will be the best vacation of your life.
