The Double H Ranch will be holding an Amateur Southwest Culinary Competition at this year’s event – the Chuckwagon Challenge! Five finalists will be chosen to serve their dish to guests at the Ranch’s Annual Gala on June 29.
If you enjoy cooking up a little gourmet or homestyle comfort foods in your home kitchen for friends and family, you might just be able to earn a little recognition for it (not to mention $15 grand)!
The Double H Ranch is a nonprofit organization in Lake Luzerne, NY that provides a Summer Residential Camp, an Adaptive Winter Sports Program and Spring and Fall Family Programming to children and their families dealing with life-threatening illnesses.

The competitiion is open to amateur cooks, home cooks, and non-professional that are 18 or older. Contestants must enter online by Monday, May 21, to be considered. The application includes the recipe and a short video of you preparing your dish.
Industry professionals will choose 15 semi finalists from the video applications, who will prepare their dish for the same judges in the first round elimination showdown. Five finalists will be chosen to serve their appetizer at the Gala on June 29.
Recipes will be chosen based on the following criteria:
- Creativity of appetizer
- Suitability of Southwestern theme ingredients
- Originality, simplicity, taste, texture and flavor
- Best use of local products
- Creative video presentation
The recipe must be an original adaptation by the contestant, and cannot be copied from any source. The dish will be a Southwestern Appetizer, and must contain southwestern elements. Participants are encouraged to avoid using pre-mixed sauces, dressings, rubs etc.
