Enjoy the great outdoors this autumn! From the gorgeous fall foliage to the crisp Adirondack Mountain air, the Lake George NY Region is alive with bountiful activities and festivals this time of year. Get out there and discover a multitude of fun, colors and adventures the entire family will love. Here are some fall activity ideas to get you started:
Apple Picking
'Tis the season for...Apples! Visit one of the local Lake George orchards in the region and enjoy hand-picking your very own juicy Cortland, Empire, McIntosh or other apple variety. You can even climb the trees and get the perfect one at the very top. Don't forget to enjoy the delicious farm-fresh local produce, jams, honey, and cider and donuts found at most local orchards! Where to go: We suggest Hick's Orchard in Granville and Saratoga Apple in Schuylerville. But there are a number of local U-pick apple orchards you can visit... including Bownan Orchards, Billy Bob's, Fairview Orchard, Applejack's, Tucker Farms, Rulf's Orchard and many others. Visit one this weekend!
Fall Festivals including the Adirondack Balloon Festival
Get up early in mid-September and discover close to 100 hot air balloons take flight! The Adirondack Balloon Festival is an annual festivity in Glens Falls, NY that will take your breath away. Love hot air balloons? Fall is the perfect season to go on a balloon ride yourself! And let's not forget the authentic German celebration of fall. Visit Oktoberfest in Lake George!
Pumpkin Patches, Hay Rides and Corn Mazes, Oh My!
Bring the family for some fun on the farm! Go to a nearby pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkins, perfect for decorating the house for fall and creating jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. Enjoy a fun-filled ride on a tractor-pulled hayride or get lost in a corn maze! We recommend It's About Thyme Farms in Olmstedville or Ellm's Farm in Ballston Spa for the best family fun on the farm! Discover more places to go pumpkin picking near Lake George.
Hiking and Biking Galore
The Adirondack Mountains beckon to be hiked this fall. Explore the many hiking and biking trails available at your fingertips, bring a picnic and go leaf-peeping! Go biking along the Feeder Canal which runs through Lake George, Glens Falls, South Glens Falls, Hudson Falls and Fort Edward!
Gondola Rides
Take a trip to Gore Mountain in North Creek or Whiteface in Lake Placid and go on a scenic gondola ride! Bring your camera: You will witness spectacular views of the Adirondacks and High Peaks!
