My dad started taking me here as a kid in the early 1970's and we'd usually go twice each summer, first for a week to 10 days and then usually for a long weekend. I remember counting down the days until we could go! Fast forward a few decades and I now bring my family and friends to CIL for the Oktoberfest weekends. It's still run by the same family and still has the same feel that I looked forward to every year. It's a unique, all inclusive lodge. Breakfast and dinner is served family style (Chef and Baker right on site) and the food is plentiful and excellent with a good variety. If say just you and your spouse go you get seated with other people and make new friends. If you bring a group your group gets seated together. They take you out on boat rides, both sail boats and power boats. There is water skiing available, and they have their own private island that they shuttle you out to. The island has a nice beach area and during the summer they serve breakfast on the island Tuesday mornings and Thursdays dinner is a BBQ on the island! How many places actually have their own island and would actually take the time and effort to haul all that food out to the island by boat, then bring all the guests out for dinner and back, then clean up everything and haul it back by boat? None that I know of!

If you check travel sites you'll see that there are not many reviews for Canoe Island Lodge. In this case that speaks volumes for how awesome the place is. There is not a lot of turnover of guests. Many guests have been coming for decades/generations like myself and rooms sell out quickly. People don't feel the need to write reviews because they know how great CIL is and we almost want to keep it a secret for ourselves!

If you are looking for a plain old hotel with a pool this is not for you. If you want an all inclusive lodge with beautiful property, great food and activities, great staff/owners, where you literally don't have to leave the property for a week if you don't want to, CIL is for you!
