Early Sunday morning, a fire broke out at the A&W restaurant on Route 9 in Lake George, leaving the building badly burned. This popular drive-in is a landmark in Lake George and a favorite among both visitors and locals.
It took more than 20 members of the Lake George, North Queensbury, Bay Ridge, and Warrensburg Fire Departments approximately four hours to put out the blaze that started shortly before 4:30am, according to The Post Star and Time Warner Cable News.
No one was injured, and the cause of the fire has yet to be released.
The future of the restaurant that’s been a mainstay in Lake George since the 1950’s is currently uncertain. The Post Star wrote that “the interior of the restaurant appeared to be totally gutted.”
