There is a coping technique often used to assist individuals in distress to think about a safe place, somewhere the person experiences calmness, a sense of security, and feelings of joy and empowerment. For me, Lake George and the surrounding areas in the Adirondacks are my safe places. Whenever I am going through a challenging time, I immediately envision myself in those mountains, and the issue or difficulty does not seem as looming as it was before. After I took this picture, a huge thunderstorm made a surprise appearance. I am not particularly fond of thunder and lightning, even more so in the past. I was so entranced by the beauty surrounding me, that I was able to deal with the storm because I felt safe. My hope is that others will experience the same pleasure, excitement, and perceptions that have become such an integral part of my life.
