Fundraiser Set for Family Affected by Recent Motorcycle Tragedy
In the wake of last Sunday’s motorcycle accident, which took the lives of two Lake George locals, including an eight-year-old boy, this week’s Fridays at the Lake performance will be dedicated to the family affected by the tragedy.
Funds from food and beverages sold will go towards a fundraiser happening on Wednesday at Lake George Expedition Park, when the theme park admission will be donation-only; there will also be raffles and other fundraising efforts.

New Cafe Opening in Hadley, Grand Opening to Serve as a Fundraiser
Note: Opening day is now July 2 (not June 25).
A new cafe will celebrate their grand opening on July 2, and they’re donating all proceeds from the event to the local Coulson family, who lost their home to a fire. Sweetie’s Cafe can be found at 13 Park Avenue Extension, next to Bend of the River Golf Club in Hadley.
They will serve breakfast and lunch items like crepes, sandwiches, and even burgers, and they’ve recently posted tempting looking blueberry cheesecake and strawberry cheesecake doughnuts on their Facebook page.

More Details Released on Georgia O’Keeffe Musical & Festival
Additional info has been announced regarding the Georgia O’Keeffe musical happening this summer. “Nearby Faraway” will premiere the last two weekends in July at the Fort William Henry’s Carriage House, and will document the real-life love story of Georgia O’Keeffe and her husband/manager, Alfred Stieglitz. The musical serves as the centerpiece of a two-week festival, themed around the Centennial of O’Keeffe’s “breakthrough” summers in Lake George.
“Nearby Faraway” is being produced by Adirondack Institute with grants from Warren County Tourism, LARAC, and other local organizations. The set will be designed by Adirondack Scenic. Other events will include preview concerts, beginner and advanced painting classes, and more. Stay tuned as more details continue to be revealed about what some are calling Lake George’s “blockbuster summer event!”
Novel Includes Mentions of Lake George & Its Nonexistent Police Department
Author Mikaela Bee, writer of The Lake House, recently took to Facebook to note a poor review for her book which mentions a Lake George police department; Lake George in fact, does not have a police department. She reiterated that the book is a work of fiction, but ends the post asking, why doesn’t Lake George have a police department? It’s true: Lake George Village has not had a police station since 1988, although we reported back in January that the Village could get a “substation” as soon as summer 2023.
The Lake House by Mikaela Bee (not to be confused with other books of the same name) was published in March of 2021 and centers around a stay-at-home mom who goes to an adults-only weekend away at a lake house, where someone ends up dead; it’s not clear if Lake George is the lake referenced in the title, or if it’s another Adirondack lake. You’ll have to read it to find out!
