The Fort William Henry Museum, a restoration of historical significance to our democracy, opened May 1 for its 2022 season. New this year is an Augmented Reality (AR) exhibit located inside the North Barracks of the Fort that puts the viewer directly into the siege of the British fort by the French on August 8, 1757.
The Fort held a strategic location on the southern shore of Lake George. The new AR experience, created by Frameless Technologies, features a bird’s eye view of The Fort, the Entrenched Camp, and the French siegeworks firing at the Fort itself. Viewers can manipulate the AR by moving their phones to explore more of the surrounding area. Instructions on downloading the app and viewing the AR are available on-site at the Museum.
In addition to the all-new AR experience, other popular ways to experience Fort William Henry this season are their daytime Living History tours and their Haunted History tours.
The Fort’s Living History tours will allow you to step back in time with 18th century guides and experience life at a British fort in 1755 where you can talk with British Regulars, Provincial Troops, and Rangers; join the King’s Army; play 18th Century games; and watch live musket and cannon firings.
The area surrounding Fort William Henry has been the scene of countless battles, terrible diseases and a harsh climate. During the Fort’s Haunted History tours, you will hear tales handed down over the years, as well as your tour guide’s personal paranormal experiences. You just may end up leaving with your own tale to tell.
The Fort William Henry Museum is open daily, from 9:30 am – 5 pm through October 30th. It’s recommended to purchase tickets online, but they can also be purchased day of at the Admission Booth.
If you’re looking for a place to stay during your visit, the Fort William Henry Hotel is located just steps away from the fort and offers a variety of comfortable options for every budget, along with amazing views of Lake George.
