When Americade returns to Lake George Village in early June 2018, things may look a little different. After recent discussions with Warren County and the village, the motorcycle rally’s organizers have tentatively agreed to move their Americade Expo from the state-owned parking area at Million Dollar Beach to a more central location at Charles R. Wood Park.
A Change of Scenery
Since the mid-1980s, Americade has been one of the biggest and most popular annual events in the Lake George Region. The event continues to draw huge crowds each year, and today, it is recognized as the world’s largest multi-brand motorcycle touring rally.
Although Americade’s headquarters is at the Fort William Henry Resort, their massive tradeshow is typically at Million Dollar Beach’s parking area. Featuring hundreds of the best vendors and deals on motorcycle products, the Americade Expo is a highlight of the week-long rally.
However, for 2018, there are plans to move the Expo to the Festival Commons at Charles R. Wood Park, which is located closer to the heart of Lake George Village. According to the Post-Star, the increased costs to rent the space at Million Dollar Beach from NY State caused the motorcycle rally’s organizers to seek an alternative.
The Festival Commons at Charles R. Wood Park and its two parking lots are ideal because it will cost the rally roughly $25,000 to rent for the week. In addition, visitors and participants won’t have to park and walk all the way to Million Dollar Beach and the Expo.
Americade’s event organizers have agreed to move the Expo, but there is a contingency. A tow truck show is scheduled to be held at the Festival Commons the week before Americade, so the village needs to determine if the Expo can be set up in time.
If the Expo does move to the new location, it will make the event much more accessible to participants and rally visitors.
