Can’t wait for the Adirondack Phantoms to see some hockey? A new amateur junior hockey team is making their debut in Lake George this weekend! The inaugural season for the Lake George Fighting Spirit will begin Saturday with special guests and more.
Lake George’s new Junior ‘A’ Hockey team, the Lake George Fighting Spirit, will be playing their home opener this weekend. The Fighting Spirit will be kicking off their inaugural season against the Cape Cod Islanders Saturday, Sept 15 at 7:00 p.m.
The Fighting Spirit is one of seven teams in the Northern States Junior Hockey League (NSHL). The roster will consist of 26 players from North America and Europe. Players will range from high school graduates to age 20. All players will stay either with host families or in cabins near the Forum.
Three of the players on the team already call the area home:
- Brian Frederick, Queensbury
- Andrew Crist, Queensbury
- Kyle Paton, Saratoga Springs
The amateur hockey team will play a 50-60 game schedule that will run through March. Their schedule will consist of playing against other NSHL and college teams.
The puck will be dropped at 7:00 p.m. with a special guests appearance by Hall of Famer and former Montreal Canadien Peter Mahovlich. There will be a season ticket give away draw and the grand opening of the Spirit Lounge and Spirit Pro Shop. The Fighting Spirit will play the Islanders again on Sunday, Sept 16 at 12:00 p.m.
