We love our lake town, and so does the travel and news media company Far & Wide, who recently recognized Lake George as one of the top small lake towns in the country.
Far & Wide rounded up 45 small lake towns with populations of roughly 35,000 or less who offer enviable lake town experiences like year-round fishing, hiking trails, lodging from rustic cabins to reputable resorts, great dining, art galleries, boutique shops, and of course, a desirable lake close by!
Lake George comes in at number 35, with mentions of the Lake George Steamboat Company and Inn at Erlowest as a top attraction to check out and an awesome place to stay, respectively. The publication also gives a nod to the historic significance of the area, with the Town of Lake George dating back to the 1800s, having been officially incorporated in 1903.
Lake Placid is another small New York State lake town that got highlighted, along with Aurora, Monticello, Oswego, and Hammondsport.
