Nearly 900 wristbands have been sold for the first-ever Lake George Area Winterfest, happening each weekend in February. What can we look forward to next? Check out a new place to enjoy ice skating, discover where ice sculptures are now on display, and find out what the latest big announcement is!
First February Weekend Brings Frosty Fun for Everyone
Over February 4 to 7 Winterfest-goers enjoyed everything from horse-drawn carriage rides to hot chocolate stations to hotel and restaurant discounts to various activities. The fun continues every weekend (that’s Thursday through Sunday) in February and wristbands are on sale at LakeGeorgeWinterfest.com for $30 each.
The wristband includes horse-drawn carriage rides around the Village, access to hot cocoa stations, 15% off your hotel stay, and 10% off participating restaurants, many of which offer takeout and delivery. And, kids wristbands are available at half the price.
What to Check Out This Weekend: A Public Ice Skating Rink, Ice Sculptures & Fireworks
Now open is the brand-new, public ice skating rink adjacent to Shepard Park Beach. You do not need to purchase a wristband to enjoy the rink, although rentals are not available so make sure to bring your own.
Even though The Hyde is on pause until May, you can stop by to enjoy an incredible ice sculpture exhibition on the museum’s front lawn.

And guess what? Winterfest organizer Christian Dutcher has announced that fireworks have been approved for the remaining Saturdays in February. The show will begin at 7pm, last 8 to 10 minutes, and will launch from Fort William Henry; the intention is to have the fireworks appear more overhead than usual, allowing more people to see it from a distance, thus discouraging crowds from forming.
To provide additional viewing areas, Beach Road will be closed between Canada Street and Westbrook from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Authorities will be on hand for crowd control and social distance enforcing.
You may or may not have heard, but the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival has had to cancel their closing fireworks because of lack of crowd control. Let’s all follow the rules and stay safe so we can enjoy the show!
