Coming on the heels of the Governor’s announcement that amusement parks can reopen at 33% capacity starting this spring, the Six Flags Great Escape & Hurricane Harbor wasted no time getting information out about what we can expect at the attraction for 2021. (Scroll to the bottom for details on their new ride!)
Great Escape will reopen for weekends and on select dates starting May 1, 2021, with daily operation to begin June 24. The Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Waterpark will be back to full operation on March 26.
“The health and safety of our guests, team members, and community remains our top priority and we are implementing extensive sanitization and safety measures to deliver a safe and entertaining experience for our guests,” Great Escape Resort Park President Rebecca Wood said in a statement.
Hiring, Training & A Hiring Fair Will Happen Virtually
Great Escape, which is one of the largest seasonal employers in the region, plans to interview, hire, and train employees virtually this year. Applications can be completed online at sixflagsjobs.com (select Lake George, Great Escape). There will also be a virtual hiring fair on Saturday, March 13, from 10am to 2pm.
New Safety Guidelines for Rides, Food Areas & More
When it comes to safety and cleanliness measures, Great Escape has vowed to meet or exceed New York State’s guidelines. Some examples of new procedures include but are not limited to health screenings of guests and employees, strict policies on social distancing and mask-wearing for individuals over the age of two, separation of guests on roller coasters and rides, rides and other high-touch points being sanitized throughout the day, and touchless bag checks with advanced security screenings.
Food-wise, menus will be modified and the ordering process adjusted to better facilitate touchless transactions, self-serve buffets and salad bars will be reconfigured to eliminate guest contact with food, condiments and cutlery will be provided with meals as needed, and any drink bottle refills will be served to guests in a paper cup each time they refill.
All employees will be issued Team Member Action Packs that include a safety mask, safety glasses, and disposable gloves. Low pressure backpack sprayers will be utilized for disinfecting large areas, and microfiber cloths will be used to sanitize surfaces.
A Multi-Layer Approach to Team & Guest Member Communication
As evidenced by their detailed plan, Great Escape is prioritizing communication with guests. There will be safety messaging and reminders on the website and signage throughout the park (including distance markers and physical distance indicators), frontline team members will go through extensive COVID-19 training, and of course they will be adhering to the attendance cap.
What to Know About Tickets & Reservations
All members, season pass holders, and all guests with a single-day or group ticket will need to make a reservation at sixflags.com/reserve. Guests looking to purchase single-day tickets will be able to reserve during the purchase process. This process will take five to seven minutes as guests do the following:
- Enter online order number, ticket number, or membership/season pass number
- Select the day and the approximate time they want to visit
- Acknowledge their understanding of the company’s health policy
- Order pre-paid parking, if they do not already have a parking pass
- Watch a brief video about the new social distancing and sanitization procedures
Guests will be contacted the day before their scheduled visit to confirm the intent to visit and their continued healthy status. You’ll be able to cancel your reservation without penalty anytime before 8am on the day of the scheduled visit. Members and season pass holders will receive booking priority over single-day and group ticket buyers.
The New Ride You Can Check Out This Year!
The Adirondack Outlaw, initially planned to debut in 2020, will make its grand appearance this year. This is a high-flying, 50-mile-an-hour experience with seats that are able to freely flip 360 degrees. It will not only deliver the thrills you expect from an awesome amusement park ride but it will also provide incredible views of the park.
