The Virtual Lake George Open Water Swim, created to replace the traditional Open Water Swim that was cancelled, is open to Lake George lovers and swimmers everywhere. Check out the details and see how you can stay connected to Lake George while helping to fundraise for a great local cause.
This eight-week, 32-mile challenge runs from August 1 to September 30, with registration open from July 20 to September 15. Complete this swim (32 miles for the 32-mile long Lake George!) throughout the eight-week period, logging your miles as you go. Every mile you log will move your position across Lake George on a virtual map, where you can see how you’re doing compared to others in your age group, gender, and location.
While many annual events have been forced to go virtual, what’s cool about this one is that organizers kept in mind that access to public swimming pools and other open water venues might be restricted for some participants depending on what area they live in. By creating an event that spans eight weeks, that helps those in more restricted areas have a chance to catch up.
The $55 entry fee includes access to their tracking and mapping platform, a swim cap, and other goodies. Proceeds support the Lake George Association, whose mission is to protect the water quality of Lake George.
Get the details at LakeGeorgeSwim.com, register by September 15, and then complete your swim in any lake, pond, ocean, river, pool, or a combination of all!
