Editor’s Note (6/17/2020 3:45PM): This article has been updated to further clarify reservations and to include the full list of Adirondack campgrounds and day use areas opening on June 19.
The wait is finally over! The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced that it will open the Lake George Island Campgrounds, Lake George Battleground, and other New York State campgrounds on Friday, June 19.
The DEC has been actively working to reopen their campgrounds and day use areas for the 2020 summer camping season. As noted on their website, the Lake George Island Campgrounds, Lake George Battlefield Day Use Area, Lake George Battleground State Campground, and others will open on June 19, and existing reservations will be honored.
Some local campgrounds, such as Hearthstone Point and Rogers Rock, are closed until further notice.
Currently, the DEC is not accepting additional reservations or walk-in camping. When they do begin accepting new reservations, campsites will be able to be reserved through ReserveAmerica. We will update this post with that exact date once we have it.
According to the announcement, Limekiln Lake Campground and Day Use Area, Luzerne Campground and Day Use Area, and Nicks Lake Campground and Day Use Area will open on June 26, and more updates will be available as reopening planning and preparation continues.
