Lake George Gateway Project Slated To Begin

The busy Route 9 corridor between Northway Exit 21 and West Brook Road is about to get a much anticipated $7 million makeover that will beautify the area and make it more accommodating to pedestrians and bicyclists as well as motorists.

The design of this ‘complete streets’ project calls for improvements that include sidewalks and crosswalks, defined turning lanes, center medians, themed lighting, landscape improvements utilizing native plants, and stormwater system improvements. The speed limit will also be lowered from 45 mph to 40 mph.

Equipment for the first stages of the project will be arriving within the coming weeks and the target completion date is summer 2017.

Planning and Zoning Director, Dan Barush, reported to The Post Star that the town will issue a color-coded construction schedule showing which segments of the street are to be worked on and when, providing public notice of lane closures.
