Lake George’s new Charles R. Wood Park will play host to the weekend’s family-friendly fun. Although the Derby field is capped at 400 entrants, guests are welcome to partake in the land-based festivities.
The Derby features Adult and Junior Divisions and boasts over $15,000 worth of prizes. There will be three categories in each division: Lake Trout, Largemouth Bass, and Smallmouth Bass with the minimum Adult Division sizes set at 28″ for Lake Trout and 16″ for Bass and the minimum Junior Division sizes set at 23″ for Lake Trout and 12″ for Bass.
Not a fan of fishing? What about live music, children’s activities, a chicken barbecue, a bay cruise, and fireworks?! Those are just some of the other activities you’ll get to take part in over the weekend.
The Derby registration fee is $40 for adults, $30 for juniors, and the early bird deadline is July 1, 2015. It’s expected that this event will sell out, so don’t wait to register! After July 1, the entry fee increases to $50 for adults and $40 for juniors. When you register online for the Derby, you can indicate the number of guests you’ll be bringing with you and can purchase passes for them to enjoy the entertainment and food. For those participating in the Derby, a t-shirt and all activities and are included in the registration fee, with the exception of the bay cruise.
Proceeds from this event benefit the S.A.V.E. (Stop Aquatic Invasives from Entering) Lake George Partnership that works to keep invasive species out of the lake. There will be a free boat inspection and wash on Friday, July 10 so Derby participants can make sure their boats are cleared to enter the water.
