Lake George fishing continues to be excellent. The water has reached the 50s and the fish will be starting to move out of the bays and into the deeper and colder depths. Trout will be 65 feet or deeper while the salmon can still be from just below the surface to about 65 feet. As we go deeper, we will start to use Christmas tree rigs with flat fish trolled as slow as you can go across the bottom to entice trout. and streamer flys trolled on a short leader behind a dodger at about 40 feet for salmon. Spoons like buttons, wobblers, and stingers trolled deep on the bottom will also produce fish as the season progresses. Give these tactics a try and your trout and salmon fishing should pick up.
My favorite trip this weekend took place on Saturday when a group of friends I haven’t seen in some time came on board the Highliner for a day of fishing and reminiscing old stories. We had a great day of laughs as well as terrific weather and fishing. It is days like this that make me realize how fortunate I am to do this for a living. Please check out the photos below of my longtime friends Ellen Boyle, John O’Malley, Dan Casey and Denis McCarthy. Thanks for a great day, gang. Let’s not wait so long til next time.
