The last of Lake George’s ice is sinking and blowing up on the village shore as I write this report. This will be one of the earliest starts to the season in quite sometime. The smelt run is still a few weeks away so fishing can be tough now.The salmon and lakers will both be suspended from top to bottom since temps are nearly the same at this time.Use your fish-finder to locate schools of smelt suspended in theof bays with brooks that will have a smelt run.
Run stick baits like Rapalas,Bombers,Thundersticks, reefrunners etc. at varying levels. If this doesn’t produce, go to the bottom for the lakers with a xmas tree rig and a flatfish.Speeds vary depending on which method you choose. For most applications run your sticks 1-2mph.Xmas tree rigs 1mph or less is best
I’ll keep you posted with updates on the smelt run and provide you with pictures from the latest Highliner fishing catches.Check out my reports here weekly, and Ii promise you will catch more fish. Please use our blog here to help answer your questions.Be sure to check out my Saratoga Lake report at www.saratoga.com. The crappy bite has already started there.
