Adirondack Meat Company Will Create Jobs, Sustain Farmers

The Adirondack Meat Company, a project awarded funding through Governor Cuomo’s Regional Council initiative, is under construction in Ticonderoga, NY. On August 28, 2013, state and local leaders and councils joined together to celebrate construction of the USDA food processing facility that will create jobs, support the region’s agriculture industry, and provide residents with locally produced food.

The Adirondack Meat Company was awarded a total of  $465,000 from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development initiative and aligns with the North Country Regional Economic Development Council (NCREDC) strategic plan by fostering the growth of the small, entrepreneurial businesses, supporting the region’s agriculture industry and promoting the sale of value-added, local products.

Adirondack Meat Company is currently in the process of constructing and equipping a 7,500 square foot meat processing plant that will process and return packaged products to livestock suppliers. Once completed, it will be the first USDA-certified processing facility in the Adirondack Park.
Adirondack Meat Company will be able to provide quality processing in a modern plant, limiting processing transportation costs and delays. These innovations will eliminate long waiting and processing times for local farmers and consumers.
Based on survey responses from area livestock growers, the facility is anticipated to double the production of livestock in the region and eliminate an existing barrier to value-added productions. The facility will also include a retail shop for the sale of processed and packaged meat, and branding a finished product with the Adirondack label will further promote the region.
Representatives of the Department of Agriculture and USDA Rural Development spoke out in support of the Adirondack Meat Company and expressed their gratitude to Governor Cuomo’s initiative. Meanwhile, Congressman Bill Owns and Assemblyman Dan Stec congratulated the important investment and its potential to support both the local and national economies.
