Adirondack Balloon Festival

The Adirondack Balloon Festival

The most anticipated event every year in the Lake George Region is the Adirondack Balloon Festival. Hundreds of hot air balloons fill the sky with their fun shapes and brilliant colors. The Adirondack Balloon Festival kicks off Thursday in Crandall Park in Glens Falls, where you can see balloons taking off, while you can enjoy other activities as well. Friday evening the festival shifts to the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport where even more of the balloons will lift off.

Saturday starts early, real early. Fans start arriving well before dawn at the airport, where parking is always free. Just as the sun peaks over the mountains, the morning sky fills with the spectacular view of these giant balloons. Saturday evening, all of the participating balloons launch from the airport, but once again, cars and families start arriving hours before the launch, so make sure to plan ahead.

Sunday, the fun starts all over again. At the morning launches, a big breakfast is available in the hangar, and all of the festival's events have great entertainment, food and lots of fun activities.

There is plenty to do all weekend throughout the area; the early fall is a lively time in the Lake George area. All balloon launches are weather permitting. The Adirondack Balloon Festival is not only the annual signature event of the area; admission has always been free of charge.
