What to Know Before You Go

crowd of people on ice on lake

The Lake George Winter Carnival runs every weekend from February 7 to March 8, 2026. Most events are free or low-cost, family-friendly, and open to the public.

Many events take place in Shepard Park, right in the heart of Lake George Village, but some are held at other locations. Be sure to review the schedule ahead of time for details.

Some activities require advance registration or a ticket purchase. Check the official event schedule or individual event listings for ticketing information and deadlines. Availability may be limited, especially for popular competitions and indoor activities.

New This Year: The Carnival will feature a footpath running from Shepard Park to the Visitor's Center.

A Note on Locations: The Lake George Winter Carnival headquarters is located by the Visitor Center on the corner of Beach Road and Canada Street this season. The Polar Plunge, Dog's Got Talent, Skillet Toss, and Keg Toss take place on Shepard Park Beach. For all other activities and events, please refer to the Lake George Winter Carnival's schedule on their website for specific locations.

What Happens If There's No Ice?

Lake George may not fully freeze over each winter, but the carnival goes on regardless of ice conditions. A few activities, like outhouse races and motorcycle races, depend on safe ice. If the lake is not frozen, outhouse races are relocated to Lake George Battlefield State Park, while other ice-dependent events may be modified, moved, or canceled.

The Winter Carnival’s Facebook page and official website will post any schedule changes due to weather or ice conditions.
