My family and I just came back from Lake George. We stayed at Contessa for one week and we had a great time there. The place is very, very clean. well kept. We stayed in Unit #9 WHAT a VIEW!! Loved it. The staff is very friendly and courteous. Lawrence was always very helpful. I recommend Contessa for your quiet stay at Lake George.

My family and I have been traveling to the Lake George area for 40 years now. Not once in those 40 years have we encountered a man like, "Captain Bob." I decided this year to take the reigns and make the reservations for my father. I wanted something with a kitchen since now I have a 2 yr old son and I am actually 8 months pregnant again. Traveling with children is stressful enough and to put up with someone like Bob in your 8 month of pregnancy was absolutely ridiculous. My parents got there first and Bob gave them a problem right off the bat with showing my dad the penthouse before we paid the rest of the balance. He had our $400 deposit what is the big deal?? While they were waiting for us to arrive they ran into a man who docks his boat at Bob's. My father questioned him on how the resort was. The man explained how he just docks and stays a day or two but he knows Bob has an awful reputation in Lake George. We were short a room key and Bob assured us that he would drop off another one the next day. The next day we approached him about the key at about noon and he looked at us like we were nuts to even ask him for the key, in which we NEVER received. That night when we returned we started to BBQ at about 6-7 pm. My father got stung by 2 bees right on our deck. We nicely asked Bob to take care of the situation & he told us he won't get rid of the hive until after dark. He then told us he did not have a first aid kit for my dad but one of the woman he was laughing and joking w/ offered us a band aid. How can he not have a first aid kit??? When we rationally told him we wanted to BBQ and eat on our deck so we would like for him to take care of the hive now, he told us to move the BBQ ourselves through our penthouse and BBQ out our front door. At this point we had had it with Bob. My mother asked him how, to strap it to our backs? And at that moment he stormed at my mom like a raging bull. I honestly thought he was going to hit her. He ran around her and jumped on his golf cart, raced up to our penthouse, forcefully pushed open the front door (in which anyone could have been knocked out by if they were standing behind it), ran out the back door to the deck and dragged the BBQ through the penthouse like an animal with it already on. When he got outside he realized the tank was empty & to our surprise he stormed right off to replace it. On the 3rd day one bed collapsed and the last thing we were going to do was complain to Bob. We paid for everything and were guaranteed NOTHING and in turn got treated terribly by a nasty, awful person. We stayed completely clear and out of his way for duration of the vacation after this. We weren't going to let this horrible person ruin our family time together. It is a shame, the penthouses were clean and looked recently updated but I would have rather lost my deposit and take my money else where if I knew the type of people that reside at the Contessa. The original BOB I made the reservations with was in NO way this same person. Don't be fooled by whoever he has confirm the reservations. Now I know why he only accepts cash. He must make his money on newcomers every year and that is it b/c there is no way any person in their right mind would return there. Do not stay at this resort and do NOT believe a word of his dispute. There are so many other wonderful places and people in Lake George and surrounding areas to choose from.

The woman' s father arrived about an hour before she did and asked the desk clerk to see the unit before he paid the balance of his bill. I happened to be passing through the office at the time and told him I would be happy to show him the unit. We rode in my golf cart and I showed him every room in the penthouse suite that he was assigned. These are our nicest units, everyone likes them. He asked if there was only one bathroom and I told him that was correct. It seemed to me he had wanted to check out the unit alone, but we don't give keys to unregistered guests. He and his wife decided to wait by the road for the rest of their family before checking in. The rest of the family arrived about 45 minutes later and they checked in. I noticed that we were missing a key to their unit and promised to get them one the next day, which I admit I forgot to do. That evening about 8 o'clock I was sitting on a deck with some guests who had invited me for dinner. My desk clerk came over and told me someone had been stung by a bee and asked what to do. I told her to offer them a band aid and some cream from our first aid kit which is always available in the office, even though there isn't much you can do for a bee sting. The mother came out of the office, noticed me sitting on the deck and came over and asked me to come kill the hive right now so they can grill on their deck. I told her that I would take care of it as soon as it gets dark, because bees and wasps won't fly far at night and there is less chance of getting stung numerous times. That answer wasn't good enough for her and she started ranting that I should take care of it now. I then told her she could move the grill from the back deck to the front deck where there wouldn't be any bees. She told me "what should I do strap it on my back?" I then told her no, it has wheels, and she stormed off ranting headed for her unit. I walked to my golf cart and drove up to the suite, knocked on the door, and proceeded to move the grill to the front deck. This didn't make her happy either, as she didn't want to grill in the front. I placed the gill where they could use it and not worry about the bees bothering them again. The flame had gone out and I tried relighting it, but to no avail as it was out of propane. I then took the tank and went to the super market, swapped tanks, and returned in five minutes with a new tank of gas. Her son in law who was waiting on the front deck told me " I can't believe your back here so soon" To this day the grill remains on the front deck where no one else has had a problem with it being there. At dusk I killed all the yellow jackets as promised. This review was written second hand by the woman's daughter. She was not present for any of what transpired and exaggerated the story beyond belief from her mothers version. We believe in satisfying our customers, but not when its going to put someone in harms way.

Rented a pontoon boat for half a day. Capt. Bob showed us how to use the boat and we were on our way. Boat was awesome, experience was well worth it. We plan on renting the boat again on our next trip to Lake George.
