The cottages are extremely small and close to eachother for the rental price, the upstaires roome are literally crawl-spaces with mattress' on the floor. Was eaten alive by mosquitos because inside was so stuffy.

Hey, Patrick from Newburgh, thanks for giving us the chance to explain WHY you were unhappy. Long story short, it's because we kicked you out for the most boorish drunken behavior we've yet witnessed. Your group arrived after midnight, we explained the pool rules (key detail: open from 10am till dusk), brought you extra bed linens, called it a night. You guys went out drinking, returned at 5:30am, broke through the padlocked pool gate, shoved aside the thermal blanket, and drunk dived into the water. Not content to break the rules (and endanger your lives) alone, you invited neighboring cabins to join you -- and cursed them out when they refused! We were woken by the cursing and charged to the pool to tell you, in no uncertain terms, you had to leave the pool; two hours later we also asked that you pack up and leave. You requested permission to delay packing your things until after your river raft trip; we felt we had no choice but to agree, since it was obvious you wouldn't leave otherwise. When you returned, you shook our hand, said "no hard feelings," and wondered why we were only giving you half your money back. Please understand: in these circumstances, you weren't entitled to ANY money back, but we figured refunding half your bill (less the cost of the gate latch you broke) was the fastest way to get you to leave. We consider that reasonable, considering you stayed for half your reservation, but apparently you don't think we did enough. In closing, we simply cannot have a group like yours here, endangering yourselves and potentially others. Under the circumstances, we think we showed you far more respect and generosity than you have, both to us and to your fellow guests.

My classic car club stayed there last year. As far as i could tell, we were quite pleased with the cabins. Any little thing that was a problem, we brought to thier attention and it was taken care of, or was noted to be repaired for our next visit. they even went out and bought a hose for us to wash our cars. they are new owners and are trying to upgrade there cabins. so on that note i can cut some slack..And we look forward to seeing them in September..Fred

I was completely dissatisfied with my stay at Pine Grove Cottages and left after only spending one night there for the following reasons: 1. There is no air conditioning in the middle of a heat wave and that info was never shared with us prior to reservation 2. The screens don't fit the windows and the bugs were all over the cottages 3. The hole under the door is big enough for a rodent to get in! When we complained to the owner Peter he refused to give us our money back and was very rude!! I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy!

We certainly regret the failure of any guest to enjoy their stay, but it's worth adding some detail to Tammy's complaint. It was hot that day: true. Usually about 4 days per year are similarly oppressive. For those 4 days (and the other 361), we don't have A/C, never claimed to, and we answer every question about it forthrightly. We lose 25-30 bookings a year as a result of our choice. This group was obviously frustrated that they failed to ask about an amenity that was, clearly, vital to their enjoyment of their stay. Rather than take advantage of our large welcoming pool (where a dozen other guests were splashing contentedly), they put their biking leathers back on and rode off in search of a window unit they could buy and return 3 days later. When that failed they, still in heavy leather, saluted us with the news that we were "at the top of their s#%t list." We gave them two new fans, in addition to the two already in their cottage, but did not offer a refund because at that late date, there was zero chance of refilling the vacancy. Because this group was so persuaded that the responsibility for their suffering was ours alone, they threatened us with this very review "to ruin our business." We stand by our property, and we stand by our refund policy. We do thank Tammy for pointing out the door gap -- we will install a door sweep before the week is out. And we're adding a FAQ page to our website to help avoid this sort of confusion.

Just spent 4 days and 3 nights here last week - pictures in their website are deceiving - the cottages are not that clean nor well maintained. Not fully equipped to the basic comforts of home - no microwave, no air conditioner, no toiletries at all. The good thing is that there were a lot of trees so the cottage is not that hot during the day even amidst the hot summer. Would still absolutely not recommend to anybody though.

We regret this guest didn't bring her concerns to our attention during her stay, as we make every effort to provide a clean, comfortable experience for all our guests. Her family enjoyed the pool, the grounds, cooking and socializing. They lingered an hour beyond check-out time, photographing themselves enjoying the grounds, and they reported enjoying their stay when they left. When we entered their cottage afterward, we were hit by an overwhelming fish stench which permeated the cabin. We make every effort to keep our prices reasonable (this group of 14 enjoyed a 3-night vacation in two cottages for $29/person/night), but we found it necessary to charge them an additional $30 for the effort involved in deodorizing the cabin for the next guests. Two hours after receiving the bill, they posted this negative review. You decide, but we think the timing is a little "fishy". As for the claim that the pictures are deceptive, we ourselves took all the pictures in the last two years. Most of our guests value the variety of photos we provide and report that the pics accurately represent the cottages. If they differ, it is only where we have made more improvements, and in our busiest season we have not yet found time to post updated photos. We are proud of our property and feel no need to misrepresent it or mislead potential guests. Where cottages are equipped differently (e.g., some feature microwaves or full tubs, some do not), we direct guests to the accommodations that best suit them. Pine Grove Cottages offers renovated, rustic Adirondack cabins at very reasonable prices, and we enjoy creating an atmosphere where family and friends can make lifelong memories. We are gratified that the vast majority of our guests enjoy their stays and look forward to being able to return.
