Lake George Fishing Guide by Justin Mahoney

There are a few more weeks to get out and enjoy the fishing and foliage from the waters and there's not a better way to spend an autumn afternoon than with a fishing charter or foliage cruise on Lake George. The winner of the foliage pontoon cruise was Janet Maszdzen. She'll enjoy the lake with a few friends and you should do the same. We've had a spectacular week aboard the Highliner - check out the lake trout, beautiful . The bass are still biting too, and of course the foliage tours are more brilliant by the day. See you on the water.

Many local bars and restaurants have had local ice-out pools running. My pick was the 21st of April. I am hoping I was wrong and I can be on the water with the Highliner fishing for the weekend. Historical records show the latest ice-out dates being May 3, 1940 and 1970 . Many people thought we would be pushing it very blose this season, but it appears that won't be the case. YAHOO!

Old Man Winter is finally letting go of his chilly grasp on our Adirondack lakes and ponds and Mother Nature is taking over. Just last week twenty inches of ice remained on Lake George and Ice Fishermen were still setting tip-ups. But then suddenly Mother Nature did her magic and sent us some warm gusty southerly winds and unseasonably warm temperatures with the mercury pushing into the mid 70s . That's all it took The ice on Lake George has left the shorelines and most of the lake ice that is left is honeycomb ice .
Hopefully ice-out will occur by this weekend and open water will send us scurrying for our rods and reels. This is a great time of year for fishermen. Don't miss it. Here's another added bonus. The smelt have not yet begun running so we should be able to capitalize on the great shallow water fishing it provides for the trout and salmon.

Spool your reels, sharpen your hooks and I hope to see you on the waters of Lake George real soon.
