This humanitarian, diplomat, Swedish architect, and honorary US citizen is celebrated for his successful efforts to rescue nearly one hundred thousand Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary during the Holocaust from Hungarian Fascists and the Nazis during the later stages of World War II.
