Born in Canada, raised in Italy, and having studied for a time in Cuba, Robert Michaels is a Latin Jazz guitarist with a flair for getting his guitar to produce beautiful “fluid and melodic jazz” according to reviewer Kevin Slick.
In 1998 Michaels was nominated for the Juno Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year and in 2003, his fourth CD titled “Allegro” won him the Juno Award for Best Instrumental Album. The Ottawa Sun called him “Flamenco’s version of Led Zeppelin axe-god Jimmy Page” and that he was “every inch a dazzling guitarist.” His band combines a sound which leaves “people in the crowd…spellbound” with a sound, “so intense the listeners must hold their breath” (Toronto Star).
We invited him back from his first appearance here last year for one reason: he is that good.
