Beautiful Lakes: Lake George Named Top 10 Clearest Lake in the US

Lake George, the crown jewel in the Adirondack collection of beautiful lakes, was recently named to a list of the Top 10 Clearest Lakes in the U.S.!

If you visited Lake George this past summer, we doubt you’re surprised. Just look at those gorgeous, clear-blue depths:

But we all know just looking at water doesn’t really tell you much about the water quality. In fact, even though most of the streams a little further north in the High Peaks look like clear, babbling mountain brooks, many of them are unsafe for hikers to drink without properly treating the water. This is not the case for Lake George, however!

Lake George: Drinking Water Quality and #instaworthy

Largely protected by its topography, Lake George is not just beautiful, it’s drinking water quality! According to the Lake George Association and New York State, the water in Lake George is grade AA-special (scientific for okay to drink if you want). Surrounded by mountains that have allowed very little large-scale development or farming, the lake has not suffered from the same amounts of harmful runoff as some of its neighbors. Additionally, since Lake George is so deep, the pollutants, silt, and sediment that do enter the lake through its tributaries are quickly diluted and the lake is essentially able to clean itself.

But don’t just take our word for it – come explore the lake and enjoy stunning foliage this fall!
